CONFIGURING Win 95-98 DIAL-UP NETWORKING

At your desktop, double-click the My Computer icon.

In the My Computer menu, double-click the Dial-Up Networking folder.

In the Dial-Up Networking menu, double-click the Make New Connection icon.

In the Make New Connection menu, type Multitech56k in the Type a name for the computer you are dialing: field. Use the drop-down menu to select your modem, then click the Next button.

At the next screen, type the Area code and Telephone number for the computer you want to call in the Telephone number: field; for example, 1234567890. Then click the Next button. Note: Type the area code and telephone number listed on your Dial-Up Configuration Sheet. Do not use hyphens or spaces to separate the area code and telephone number.

You have successfully created a Dial-Up Networking connection called Multitech56k. Click the Finish button.

In the Dial-Up Networking menu, place your cursor on the Multitech56k icon and click the right side of your mouse once. Select the Properties menu and click the left side of your mouse once.

Click the Configure button.

Click the Options tab. The only box that should be checked is Display modem status, then click the OK button.

Click the Server Type folder-button.

Check that your configuration matchs the above example. Then click the TCP/IP Settings... button.

Again, your configuration should match the above example. Then click the OK buttons until you are at the Dial-Up Networking screen.

In the Dial-Up Networking menu, place your cursor on the MultiTech 56k icon and click the right side of your mouse once. Select the Create Shortcut menu and click the left side of your mouse once.

You will receive the above message. Click the Yes button so that the shortcut to MultiTech 56k icon will be placed on your desktop.

Close the Dial-Up Networking, and the My Computer menus.

At your desktop, double-click the shortcut to MultiTech 56k icon. Type your User name (your alphanumeric userid) and Password in their respective fields ( check save-password), then click the Connect button. Note: Type the user name and password assigned to your account.

After you connect to MultiTech's internet center, minimize your menu, then double-click your browser icon, i.e. Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.0 or Netscape Navigator 4.0, to surf the Internet.
