How to Create a Portfolio

The portfolio module of My Yahoo! lets you enter the stocks, mutual funds, and market indices you
want to follow. You can:
  • View your stocks
  • Input the purchase price and number of shares of stock in your portfolio
  • Monitor the value of your portfolio.

To create a new portfolio, follow these steps:

  1. Click the EDIT button next to the Portfolios column. The Edit Your Portfolios page appears.

  2. Click the CREATE NEW PORTFOLIO button.

  3. Type the name of the portfolio in the Portfolio Name text box.

  4. Type the ticker symbols, separated by spaces or commas, in the Symbols text box.

    If you need help finding a symbol, click the Look Up Symbol link to use the Ticker Symbol Lookup.
    The Ticker Symbol Lookup lets you enter any part of the company name, mutual fund, or market
    index, or you can use the My Yahoo! alphabetical listing of companies to find the symbol you want
    to add to your portfolio.

  5. Check the market indices boxes you want to follow.

  6. Click the ENTER MORE INFO button to enter the number of shares and purchase price for each
    of the stocks in your portfolio. The Edit Your Portfolio Details page appears.

  7. To enter the number of shares and the price per share for the stocks in your
    portfolio, do the following:

         Enter the number of shares you own next to its symbol.

         Enter the purchase price per share. (Purchase price may be a fraction,
         such as 34 1/8, or a decimal number, such as 34.125).

         Use a negative number of shares for short positions
           (and the short sale price as the "Purchase price").

  8. Choose the DONE button at the bottom of the page when you have finished
     entering the details of your portfolio. The Edit Your Portfolio page reappears.
  9. Choose the DONE button at the bottom of the page. 
    The My Yahoo! Front Page reappears. Be sure to bookmark the resulting page.
